Tips for Eating Healthy in College

--> Between exams, homework, and a maintaining a social life, many college students find that eating at the dining hall or opting for fast food is the most convenient choice.   However, eating healthy and maintaining balanced nutrition can just as easily be incorporated into someone’s daily routine! Here are some tips for eating healthy in college: 1.      Pack meals ahead of time- Set aside a couple hours only one day a week where you can cook and prepare all of your food.   Throughout the week you won’t have to worry about what to eat next because your food will already be made. 2.      Drink water- Swap out all beverages for water!   I know it’s tempting to get Dunkin’ every morning, but save your time, money, and calories by opting for water. 3.      Eat breakfast- Having breakfast every morning will help control your hunger throughout the rest of the day.   Some foods y...

Stress and anxiety rises in students as the semester continues bringing along midterms and more. The overwhelming amount of expectations that we have set for ourselves slowly takes over as the weeks go on. But this can be stopped and subdued with a little self-care and love. Gratitude comes from the Latin word “gratus” meaning pleasing and thankful. Gratitude is a feeling of appreciation shown through kindness, gifts or love. Gratitude comes from within. A self-value through one’s own reflection. Reflect on what you’re grateful for through a gratuity journal. Gratuity journals are shown to improve overall happiness in just two weeks. Writing an entry at least three times a week has the most effect and will help you reflect on the happiness in life. Connecting gratuity to your well-being can help bring joy in your life. Aubrie Weymiller is a member of the Women’s Ice Hockey Team serving as an Officer. She is currently a senior with a focus in Biophysics. Aubrie is currently in her 3rd year as president, and was nominated as Captain this year. According to her teammates, “She excels greatly at both positions, and she is always a positive force for us. She is constantly cheering all of us on, and motivating us. She truly believes in everyone’s potential, and makes sure to remind each of us what we excel at and how we each benefit the team. This semester has been rough on Aubrie, but her attitude has not budged. She is beginning her senior year in a very demanding major, and is looking into grad schools. Between studying for harsh exams, taking the GRE, cramming for homework, and working full time, she is still able to stay the ray of sunshine we all love and need. Finding Connections in College

Coming to college can be a difficult transition. New classes, new routines, and a new community can build onto the pressure that students already feel from being socially insecure. Forming connections between peers and your campus can help dwindle these stresses and create a calm, supportive environment to grow into your future. Creating connections through clubs, sports teams, and on-campus jobs can increase involvement and overall happiness in students. Mental health often gets overlooked by the hustle and bustle of school, work, and other commitments, but it is very important to one’s overall happiness and the ability to succeed. A easy way to start making connections is through hobbies and interests. Finding existing clubs and even creating new clubs on campus can help foster friendship based on similar interests.
