Sport Club Member Highlight: Women's Ice Hockey

Image
Aubrie Weymiller is a member of the Women’s Ice Hockey Team serving as an Officer. She is currently a senior with a focus in Biophysics. Aubrie is currently in her 3rd year as president, and was nominated as Captain this year. According to her teammates, “She excels greatly at both positions, and she is always a positive force for us. She is constantly cheering all of us on, and motivating us. She truly believes in everyone’s potential, and makes sure to remind each of us what we excel at and how we each benefit the team. This semester has been rough on Aubrie, but her attitude has not budged. She is beginning her senior year in a very demanding major, and is looking into grad schools. Between studying for harsh exams, taking the GRE, cramming for homework, and working full time, she is still able to stay the ray of sunshine we all love and need. End of Year Sport Club Highlight: Rowan Equestrian

--> Most people know about Rowan Campus Rec’s many traditional sport clubs like basketball, baseball, and soccer, but we have always been open to accepting new and unique clubs. One of our most popular unique clubs is Rowan University Equestrian! Beginning in 2012, the Rowan University Equestrian Team (RUET) offers a competitive and fun window into the world of horseback riding and the entire Equestrian field. Although the team does participate in competitions, they are also open to all “horse enthusiasts” and hope to introduce new people to equestrian. Competitive equestrian is a very broad sport with dozens of different competitions under its umbrella. Competitions range from jumping hurdles to judged trots based on the style and control of the horse's walk. Rowan Equestrian has found a specific style and in a few short years since they’ve started, they built a great program. Most Rowan riders compete in the Hunter Seat or English style. Competing in...

November Sport Club Highlight   The Fall semester is in full swing and that means our fall sport clubs are in the heart of their seasons! One of our most successful and competitive sport club is Rugby, for both men and women. Due to an increase in competitive levels and member participation, the men’s program now supports two teams- one in Division 1-AA and the other in Division 3.   The women compete on the Division 2 level. Men’s Rugby is coming off of back-to-back Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference (MARC) Championships and show no signs of slowing down this season. Coming off of a big 77-19 win over Villanova they are currently 4-1 on the year and 3-0 in the conference sitting at the top of the East Division standings. The team also leads the division in total points with 141 and Rowan players lead the division in other key categories: John Dormann leads in player points with 39 and Justin Sangster leads in tries with 5. The MARC playoffs were this weekend...
