Finding Connections in College

Coming to college can be a difficult transition. New classes, new routines, and a new community can build onto the pressure that students already feel from being socially insecure. Forming connections between peers and your campus can help dwindle these stresses and create a calm, supportive environment to grow into your future. Creating connections through clubs, sports teams, and on-campus jobs can increase involvement and overall happiness in students. Mental health often gets overlooked by the hustle and bustle of school, work, and other commitments, but it is very important to one’s overall happiness and the ability to succeed. A easy way to start making connections is through hobbies and interests. Finding existing clubs and even creating new clubs on campus can help foster friendship based on similar interests. Attention new students at Rowan: Do you want a great way to meet new people, get active, and have fun? Well, we will be hosting Late Night at the Rec on September 2 nd for our new students coming to Rowan for FREE! This event is the Sunday of move-in weekend, so after you move-in, you can celebrate and have some fun! It will be from 8 P.M. to midnight . We will be having free food (which is always a good thing), a rock wall, a meltdown machine, connect-a-shot games, and fun prizes! The event takes place at the Rec Center and on the Intramural Turf Field. For all of you new students attending Rowan, all you need is a valid student ID, and you are free to come!  Be ready to have great time and meet new friends. We hope to see you at this exciting event! End of Year Sport Club Highlight: Rowan Equestrian

--> Most people know about Rowan Campus Rec’s many traditional sport clubs like basketball, baseball, and soccer, but we have always been open to accepting new and unique clubs. One of our most popular unique clubs is Rowan University Equestrian! Beginning in 2012, the Rowan University Equestrian Team (RUET) offers a competitive and fun window into the world of horseback riding and the entire Equestrian field. Although the team does participate in competitions, they are also open to all “horse enthusiasts” and hope to introduce new people to equestrian. Competitive equestrian is a very broad sport with dozens of different competitions under its umbrella. Competitions range from jumping hurdles to judged trots based on the style and control of the horse's walk. Rowan Equestrian has found a specific style and in a few short years since they’ve started, they built a great program. Most Rowan riders compete in the Hunter Seat or English style. Competing in...
