November Sport Club Highlight

The Fall semester is in full swing and that means our fall sport clubs are in the heart of their seasons! One of our most successful and competitive sport club is Rugby, for both men and women.

Due to an increase in competitive levels and member participation, the men’s program now supports two teams- one in Division 1-AA and the other in Division 3.  The women compete on the Division 2 level.

Men’s Rugby is coming off of back-to-back Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference (MARC) Championships and show no signs of slowing down this season. Coming off of a big 77-19 win over Villanova they are currently 4-1 on the year and 3-0 in the conference sitting at the top of the East Division standings.

The team also leads the division in total points with 141 and Rowan players lead the division in other key categories: John Dormann leads in player points with 39 and Justin Sangster leads in tries with 5.

The MARC playoffs were this weekend. The men’s team is currently ranked #29 nationally in Division 1-AA. The women’s team is looking at the 2 seed in their tournament.

--> Rowan Men's Rugby defeated Temple University 27-15 this past Saturday, advancing them to their 7th consecutive MARC Finals. They lost to St. Joe's, placing them in second in the MARC playoffs. They find out Wednesday if they secured a spot in Nationals.

Women’s Rugby has also had a great season so far and are coming off of their biggest win of the year, a 20-5 victory over division rival Drexel, which put them at 3-1 on the year and first in the East division.

The team is 2nd in the division in total points with 63 and Rowan player, Ramata Mansaray, leads the division in both player points with 25 and tries with 5.

Women's Rugby finished third in the MARC D2 playoffs this past weekend which gives them a spot in Nationals.
