January Sport Club Highlight: Men's Basketball

January Sport Club Highlight- Men’s Club Basketball

As we kick off the Spring Semester, we are reaching the height of our winter sport club seasons. One of our most exciting winter sport clubs is Men’s Basketball!

Established in 2014 club basketball is one of Rowan’s newest competitive sport clubs. As part of the National Club Basketball Association (NCBBA), they compete against more than 100 schools all across the country.  The club, with both an A and B teams, provides a great opportunity for students to compete in competitive basketball without fighting for a spot on Rowan’s NCAA team.

Men’s club basketball is building off of a strong showing as they head into the heart of the regular season. In the fall, the club finished in second in a tournament at the University of Richmond finishing 3-1 on the day. They also hosted and won a tournament featuring Montclair State, Stevenson University, and Loyola University going 3-0 with help from Mhaddy Grate who scored 40 pts. on the day and Miles Desrouleaux with 28 pts.

This season, they started conference play with a commanding 3 game series sweep of Neumann University on the road. Top performers include Isaiah Williams who finished the series with 41 points and 12 assists.

Rowan currently sits at 3-1 on the year, holding the top spot in the Mid Atlantic Central Conference with a perfect record in conference play. Rowan’s offensive attack has been a key to success they have scored 32 more points than their opponents on the year.

The team faces a tough test coming up with a 3 game road series against conference rival the University of Pennsylvania this week. They will try to bounce back from their first loss of the year against Coppin State and need to win at least 2 of these games too keep their position in the conference.

Come check out Men’s Club Basketball at the Rec Center when they take on second place St. Joes with the top spot in the conference on the line and support our great sport clubs!
