How to Avoid Mid-Semester Burnout

-->

With the relentless winter weather and midterms in full swing, it’s easy to lose focus at this time of the semester. While you’d probably rather stay inside and catch up on your favorite Netflix show, it’s important to stay focused and finish out the semester strong! If you’re feeling burnt out as we hit the midway point in the semester, follow these simple tips to get back on track:
Make a Change in Scenery
By this point in the second semester, you’ve probably been following the same routine for quite a while now. While routines are great, it might help to change things up a bit when you’re feeling bogged down. Instead of doing your homework in your room or at the kitchen table, try finding a study room in the library or doing your homework at a local coffee shop.  If you’re not ready to brave the cold weather, rearranging your room a bit might do the trick!
Don’t Wait to Start on That Group Project You’re Been Dreading
 It’s no secret, we all hate group projects. Chances are, you probably have a group paper or presentation due at the end of the semester. While you’d probably rather block it out of your memory until the week before it’s due, get started now. Take the initiative to meet with your group and start working on it a little bit at a time. It might be a pain now, but you’ll be happy you did it once finals roll around.

Make Time for Exercise
It’s no secret that daily exercise is good for you, but did you know that exercise improves memory retention, focus, and concentration? Aside from being a great way to de-stress, exercise might even improve your academic performance. Whether it’s trying an at-home workout with your roommates, a walk around campus, or a group exercise class, you’ll end your workout feeling refreshed and de-stressed.
Make Plans to Be Excited About
Sometimes all you need to push you to finish out the semester are fun plans to look forward to. Don’t worry, this doesn’t have to mean an expensive island getaway and depleting your savings account! Make dinner plans with your friends from home or try out a new hiking spot with your roommate. Set the date, mark it in your calendar, and remind yourself of it when the semester gets stressful.
